Ryszard Bugajski – a film and TV director, a writer and a screenwriter. He has studied philosophy at Warsaw University and direction at Łódź Film School (1973). He started working in the 70s as Daniel Szczechura and Krzysztof Zanussi’s assistant. He debuted in 1979 with ‘Woman and Woman’ film. Between 1985 and 1997 he lived and worked in Canada where he created ‘Clearcut’. He has written such novels as ‘Interrogation’ (1983), ‘I Confess’ (1985), ‘Salt and Pepper’ (2000). Ryszard Bugajski has also directed documentaries, TV series, plays and TV programmes. The most popular feature films directed by him are ‘Interrogation’ (1981), ‘General Nil’ (2009), ‘the Closed Circuit’ (2013). Ryszard Bugajski has received numerous awards at film festivals, for example Złote Grono in Łagowo, an award of the audience and a special award during Gdynia Film Festival, as well as Silver Hugo at Film Festival in Chicago. In 2008 he received the Gold Medal ‘Gloria Artis’.
